Taiwan Public Holidays 2027: All 9 Long Weekends and How to Turn 5 Days Off Into 16
Taiwan’s 2027 calendar is good news for anyone who works there: 121 days off, 9 long weekends of 3 days or more, and not a single make-up workday. The catch is that Lunar New Year lasts only 7 days, 2 fewer than in 2026.
This guide lists every 2027 long weekend, explains how substitute days off work, and shows the leave days that give you the longest breaks. It is also useful if you plan to visit Taiwan, because trains, flights and hotels fill up fast during these dates.

Dragon Boat Festival (Wed Jun 9), Mid-Autumn Festival (Wed Sep 15) and Teachers’ Day (Tue Sep 28) fall midweek, so they do not create long weekends on their own. They are great for bridging with leave, though.
Why is Lunar New Year only 7 days?
Lunar New Year’s Eve is Friday, February 5, and the break starts the day before. The first and second days of the new year (February 6 and 7) fall on a weekend, so they are made up after the third day, on Tuesday, February 9 and Wednesday, February 10.
That gives a 7-day break from February 4 to 10. Offices reopen on Thursday, February 11.
How substitute days work
When a holiday falls on a Saturday, the Friday before is a day off. When it falls on a Sunday, the Monday after is a day off. In 2027 that creates several 3-day weekends:
- Peace Memorial Day (Sun Feb 28) → Mon Mar 1 off.
- Children’s Day (Sun Apr 4) → Tue Apr 6 off, because Monday is already Tomb Sweeping Day.
- Labor Day (Sat May 1) → Fri Apr 30 off.
- National Day (Sun Oct 10) → Mon Oct 11 off.
- Constitution Day (Sat Dec 25) → Fri Dec 24 off.
- New Year’s Day 2028 (Sat) → Fri Dec 31, 2027 off.

The standout is Lunar New Year: 5 days of leave for 16 days off. For the smallest effort, take Monday, September 27 off and enjoy a 4-day Teachers’ Day weekend.

Do private companies follow this calendar?
The calendar applies to government offices. Private employers in Taiwan must give the same public holidays, with two differences:
- Substitute days can be different. Under the Enforcement Rules of the Labor Standards Act, a holiday that falls on a weekend must be made up, but the employer and workers agree on which day. Your company might not give February 9 and 10 off, for example.
- Working on a public holiday pays double. Under Article 39 of the Labor Standards Act, an employee who works on a public holiday receives double wages for that day.
Schools set their own winter and summer breaks.
